Seeking Bankruptcy Advice

I never thought I would need to seek out bankruptcy advice. I had a pretty normal life. I worked a full time job, not the best job in the world but overall not bad. I have a college degree, my wife worked part time to contribute to our income, and we paid our bills and did our best to set aside something in savings each month.

Then last year I lost my job. It wasn’t something we could really see coming. The company I work for had two bad quarters and suddenly they were making cutbacks. I work in research so I thought my position would be safe, but no luck. One week later I was unemployed and searching for a new gig.

I’ve been between jobs before. Always, within three months I was able to find something else. My wife started to pick up extra shifts when she could and I brushed off the resume. Unfortunately, over twenty resumes later I wasn’t even getting calls back. Three months went by, then four. I started apply for jobs that were much lower paying than I’m used to. It was humiliating, and it didn’t even work. After six months we were out of savings.

We all do our best to build security for ourselves, but sometimes, things are beyond your control. If you find yourself on the financial shoals it might be time to seek bankruptcy advice like I did. Our lawyer is helping us make tough decisions we wouldn’t know how to make on our own. It won’t be easy but I know we’ll weather the storm.
